Emily Bieber, Soprano
Soprano Emily Bieber has appeared as a soloist with the Michigan State University Chorale, MSU Symphony Band, and MSU Jazz Ensemble. She was also chosen as the soprano soloist for Michigan State University's September 11 memorial performance of Mozart's Requiem. She has sung with the Michigan State University Chorale, MSU Women's Chamber Ensemble, MSU State Singers, and has taken part in the Arts Chorale of Greater Lansing. She has performed in Michigan State's Wharton Center, the MSU Pasant Theatre, Emerson College's Cutler Majestic, and New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall. She has also won awards from the Lansing Matinee Musicale, National Federation of Music Clubs, Michigan Music Teachers Association, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
Miss Bieber is active on the stage, pursuing her love of performance. Her stage career includes lead roles in the musical The Fantasticks (Luisa) for the Lansing Civic Players, Jacques Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann (Olympia) with MSU Opera Theater, and Mozart's The Impresario (Madame Herz) for the MSU Opera Gala. Since arriving in Boston, she has performed in the Perkin Opera Scenes at NEC in the Act I duet from Donizetti's L'elisir d'Amore (Adina) and the full production of The Impresario (Mademoiselle Silberklang). She has been involved in the Boston Opera Collaborative, performing in the 2008 summer production of Mozart's The Magic Flute, singing the role of First Spirit and covering the role of Pamina. At the New England Conservatory she also performed in NEC's mainstage productions of Le nozze di Figaro (Barbarina), The Medium (Monica), and Cavalli's L'Egisto (Goddess of the Dawn/Hour One). Most recently she performed in Die Fledermaus (Adele) the summer of 2009 at Quisisana Resort in Lovell, Maine, and in Opera del West's L'elisir d'Amore (Gianetta cover/chorus) in the summer of 2010. In 2011, Miss Bieber will make her professional chorus debut with Boston Baroque in their March concert featuring Monteverdi's Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, Biber's Psalms, and Buxtehude's Cantata "Heut triumphieret Gottes Sohn".
In effort to connect to the community, Emily took part in a two-year outreach program at the New England Conservatory, touring throughout Boston-area assisted living homes with a vocal quartet called the Silver Belles. She is active in new music as well, having performed Steve Reich's Tehillim in November2008 for conductor Michael Sakir and premiering composer Rudolf Rojahn's Eula in December of that year. She is also the weekly soloist for Christ Church in Quincy, Massachusetts.
A native of Holt, Michigan, Miss Bieber recently completed her Master's degree at the New England Conservatory with the help of the Montrone Family Scholarship. She continues to study voice with Carole Haber and coach with Jean Anderson Collier. She received her Bachelor's degree in music performance from Michigan State University.
